What Is 3D Puff
Raised Embroidery That Stands Out
3D puff digitizing uses foam material placed under the embroidery stitches to create a raised, three-dimensional effect. It's particularly popular for cap digitizing and premium headwear where a bold, tactile logo makes a strong impression.
Our digitizers understand exactly how to handle foam thickness, stitch density, and coverage to deliver clean, professional puff results that don't collapse or show gaps.
Foam Coverage

Right Density

Clean Edges
Sharp, clean edges that cut foam precisely
Fewer Breaks
Production-tested to minimize thread breaks

Bold, simple designs with clean lines work best. Thin lettering, fine details, and gradients don't translate well to 3D puff. Block letters, simple logos, and geometric shapes produce the best raised effect.
3mm foam is standard for most cap applications. 6mm foam gives a more dramatic raised effect but requires more careful handling. Tell us your foam thickness when ordering and we'll optimize the file accordingly.
Yes — but it's not a simple conversion. A 3D puff file requires completely different stitch settings, density, and underlay compared to a flat design. We re-digitize from scratch for proper puff results rather than modifying an existing flat file.
3D puff digitizing is priced the same as standard digitizing — $1.50 per 1,000 stitches, starting at $7.50. Complex puff designs with mixed flat/puff elements may be quoted higher based on complexity.
